Nettie E. (Harris) Clifton

November 15, 1931 ~ March 2, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Nettie E. Clifton, 85, of Quinlan passed away March 2nd at her home following a battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Quinlan Church of Christ with Shawn Paden officiating.

Mrs. Clifton was born on November 15, 1931 in the Abner community of Kaufman County, Texas to J.L.(Butch) and Laura M. Hubbard Harris. She grew up in Terrell and attended a rural school in the Wilson community, then attended Terrell Middle School and Terrell High School through 10th grade. She married Elton Stutts of Terrell in 1947 and they raised four children. During this time she had career jobs in healthcare. In 1981 she married Charles Clifton, and they owned and operated a small trucking company, small town motels in Terrell and Brownsville and later moved to Panacea, Florida and owned and operated a small retail grocery store for several years. They moved back to Texas 15 years ago to their home near Lake Tawakoni until his death in 2012. She and her son Jerry continued to live there. She was a member of Quinlan Church of Christ, where she was very loyal and active until her health failed. Mrs. Clifton was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, Clyde, John Lawrence, Albert and Harvey Harris; four sisters Jessie Mae Ress, Ethel Ellis, Catherine Dyer and Alma(Duke) Pyles and one grandson Chad Lawhorn.

Survivors include her four children Janice Lawhorn(Wayne), Sherry McNutt(Glenn), Mark Stutts(Lynne) all of Terrell and Jerry Stutts of Quinlan who lived with her; one sister Bennie Dollarhyde(Bobby) of Grand Saline; grandchildren Stacey, Laura, Nikki; great grandchildren Justin, Ryelin, Ethan, Audrea; great-great grandchild Gemma; one special “pal” since 7th grade Margaret Hanselka, her next door neighbor and ‘running buddy”. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in and around the community.

Mrs. Clifton will be greatly missed in her family, her church, and her neighborhood. She loved her Lord, her family, her church, her flowers, her home, and her little dog C.C. named after her late husband. She was very loving and caring toward everyone and devoted her adult life to caring for others.
