William Cosby Middleton, age 92, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025 in Mesquite, Texas. William, who went by the name of Bill, was born on February 17, 1933 in Greenville, Texas to Samuel P. Middleton and Lillie E. Winters.
Bill was raised in the Greenville and Quinlan area. On February 23, 1951 at age 18, Bill joined the United States Army 101st Airborne and served until March 5, 1954. During Bill's military time he served in the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze Service Stars. Bill's name as well as his father, Samuel P. Middleton and his brother S.P. Middleton Jr. are on the '"Roll Of Honor'" wall of the court house in Greenville, Texas.
Bill worked a wide variety of jobs: Ice delivery van in Rockwall, Texas, Rodeo Cowboy, Farmer, Truck driver, Dog catcher, Railroad worker, Motel manager, Deputy Sheriff in Butler, Oklahoma, Construction and Roofing worker, Earth- moving equipment operator, and Rock crusher machinery operator. But Bill was at his best when telling his tall tales and stories.
Bill is preceded in death by brothers S.P. Middleton Jr. and Richard Henry Middleton, three children Richard Allen Middleton, Billy Clyde Middleton and Kathy Joyce Carnes. He is survived by David Ray Middleton and Sandra Lynn Tucker, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
