Services for Thomas Parris, age 87, will be held on Thursday, July 25, at 10:00 A.M. at Ingram Funeral Home in Quinlan, TX. Thomas passed away on July 19, 2024, at his home.
Thomas was born on September 17, 1936, in Houston, Texas, to Glenn Parris and Mary Louise (Drew) Parris. He married the love of his life, Dixie, on May 20, 1959, and together they raised their son in a loving home. He had a mathematical mind and enjoyed sharing his love of math with his students. He liked to travel and was an avid fisherman, but something about fly fishing hooked his heart. He wanted to share his love of the sport with others, so he taught classes on fly tying and casting at the Dallas Fly Fishers Club in Dallas.
Along with teaching those classes, he spent many years in the education system teaching a multitude of classes. He began his career at LaMarque, Texas ISO where he taught physics and advanced math to high school students. He moved to Mesquite ISO then again to Corsicana ISO, where he continued to teach advanced math.
Thomas moved into higher education at Navaro College in Corsicana, Tx, where he taught Calculus Ill. The last several years of his career led him to be the Principal of Denison High School and Galena Park High School near Houston. He also served as an Assistant Principal in Forney.
There are several ways to describe Thomas: avid reader, life of the party, teacher, etc. but the best way to describe Thomas would be as a protective and loving husband and father.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dixie Parris of Quinlan; son, Jason Parris of Quinlan; grandsons, Parker Andrew Parris, Austin Riley Parris, and Zachary Thomas Parris all of Oklahoma; brother, Jim Parris and wife Judy of Mineola; K-9 Kid, Maggie Parris of Quinlan.
