Spurgeon Peaden

Mr. Spurgeon Thomas Peaden passed on November 1, 2023 at 87 years old at Village Green Memory Care Center in Rockwall, Texas. He was a resident in Rockwall for over 30 years, but his beginning was a home birth in a log cabin in Cutland, Texas, the only child to Laurel Spurgeon Peaden and Gracie Inez Collins. He was raised in Bogota, Texas and married his sweetheart Wanda Joyce Sloan in 1956. The story goes…Mom gave up a promise to a brand-new Thunderbird after college, instead to marry Dad at 18! They were married 67 years and have 2 children Deborah Ernst and Mark Peaden, 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  I do believe, Dad was better than any Thunderbird for Mom! After achieving a Master’s in Education, he was a high school shop teacher in Athens Texas for 6 years and spent the last 30 years of his career working for Wing Industry in Greenville Texas. His career ended as vice-president for Wing Industries at 62. He was active with the Rotary Club, Salvation Army, Kawana Men’s Club and the Baptist Church.  In retirement he spent years as a Marshall at Buffalo Creek in Rockwall Texas. He loved golf and was saddened to not be able to play those years after age 80.

 Mom said …. Everyone knows he was an amazing Son, Husband, Father, Friend and Man! His grandchildren will remember his sweet quiet nature, desire to help others, and devotion to family. The legacy he leaves as a man is one of integrity and truth in life and business. He was known for a sense of detail, a touch of humor, love for baseball, woodwork and the Dallas Cowboys. Over the last 2 months he endured the effects of a stroke, communicated less, and was without his sweetheart. Our Family will miss him forever. He is with us in many special memories and many lessons he taught us in how to live a good life. As I live now without the greatest man I ever knew, I am thankful he is at peace. A Good Man died November 1st, a Great Man entered eternity, and this Man lived a life to be remembered! We will honor his life on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Liberty Heights in Rockwall, Texas….
