Richard Reyes, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, left us on September 14, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on October 17, 1962, in Greenville, TX, Richard was a man who loved people and was always surrounded by his loving family and friends, many of whom he considered family. Richard was known for his passion for music, having sung in choirs throughout his life. From his days in the all-boys choir in Greenville to church choirs as an adult, music was always a significant part of his life. He was particularly proud of playing the trumpet, often taking the first chair in high school jazz and marching bands. Richard's adventurous spirit shone through in his love for the outdoors. Whether it was camping, hiking, water skiing, or riding dirt bikes, he embraced every opportunity for adventure with a smile. His friends and family remember the fun times spent playing games, particularly his favorite: 42, which he played during potluck meals filled with laughter and fellowship. He also brought his competitive edge to arm wrestling, finishing third in the state at one point.
In addition to his love for the outdoors and music, Richard had a passion for technology and gaming. His journey as a software developer began back in the day with the original Odyssey console. In 1986 along with two of his closest friends, Richard cofounded REM (Reyes Evans Mead) Systems, which was a computer software company that specialized in database management for hospitals. REM Systems embarked on its first project, which was a film tracking database for McAllen Medical Centers radiology department. The experience and skills that Richard gained while with REM Systems put him in high demand, which ultimately got him recruited by Claris’s software company to be a support engineer in their Las Colinas Office supporting clients using Formula Four database software. When Claris software announced their move to Silicon Valley, Richard chose to stay in Texas close to family and friends. Richard began consulting from home opening his business 20/20 Insights.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Patty Reyes, as well as his son, Roman Reyes, and daughter, Lena Reyes. He is also missed by his aunts Carolyn Infante, Rita Thompson and Linda Miller as well as his sisters Anna Self and Christina Etheridge, along with his brother Lance Reyes; brothers-in-law Mark Self and Chris Rowland, his cousins Selena Reyes, Charmaina Bowers, Billy Otwell, Jeff Otwell, Chris Reyes. Tommy Miller, Tammy Miller and Tim Miller, Chris Infante and Shane Infante, nephews Austin Etheridge, Jonah East, Archer Rowland, Levi Reyes and Christian Huffman, and nieces Arabela Rowland, Lyndi Butler, Tori Pryor, Haylee London, Morgan Hicks-Lovett, Ashley Huffman and Nantz Huffman. Richard's closest friends whom he lived life with as family include Matt and Laura Priest, Jerry and Donna Kea, Tom and Drinda Mead, Linton and Mae Evans, Tim and Jackie Mixson, Eugene Toohey, and Danny and Grace Lyons.
Richard's warmth, enthusiasm, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In honor of Richard's life, there will be a celebration of life service, and his family invites everyone to join them in celebrating his vibrant spirit and the many memories they shared together.
