Michael Matthew Unser Jr., age 68, of Quinlan, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 30, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10:00a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Ingram Funeral Home. A visitation will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 6pm-8pm at the funeral home.
Michael Unser, affectionally known as ‘Bubbie’ and ‘Mikey’ was born on May 30, 1956, in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Mr. Michael Matthew Unser Sr. and Ella Jean Huber Unser. Michael lived in Louisiana before moving to Texas in 1975. He attended elementary and middle school in Oak Terrace, Louisiana and Southwood High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. After high school, Michael enlisted into the United States Navy and honorable served his country as a submariner and fire fighter. During his naval career, Michael traveled to many ports and lived in Spain for five years. He met the love of his life, Jan Chapman in the early 90’s and they married on August 3, 1996, in Quinlan. His beautiful Jan preceded him in death on May 9, 2023, after 27 wonderful years together. Michael always put his Lord first in his life and loved being a man of God. He was a member of Gloryland Baptist Church where he served his Lord as a deacon, church treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and minister. Michael had a talent for driving and fixing big rigs and served as a mechanic for Haliburton Transportation in Corpus Christi. He was an independent truck driver and worked as a CDL driving instructor. He was employed with Stevens Transport in Dallas for 26 years at the time of his passing. He adored his nephews and nieces, spending time with his granddaughter and was fiercely protective of those he loved. Michael had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to joke around and embarrass his family when given a chance. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the attention he received while driving his Polaris Slingshot around town. Throughout his life, Michael served others. He served his Lord, his wife, his family and his country. His legacy of love will continue in those whose lives he touched.
He is greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his stepsons, Randell Snody and Richard Snody both of Quinlan; granddaughter, Haley Hobden and husband Jake of Quinlan; great granddaughter, Eloise Hobden; brother-in-law, Danny Chapman of Quinlan; sisters, Carolyn Baldwin of Gladewater, Donna White and husband Donald Hall of Houston; and Zelda Britton of Golden.
He was also preceded in death by his father, Michael Unser Sr. on May 17, 1983; mother, Ella Jean Nelson on April 5, 2010; stepfather, James Nelson on June 5, 2021; and brothers-in-law, Delbert Baldwin, Roy White, and Jesse Britton.
