Martha Jeanne Winters Kerr of Greenville, Texas, was called to her eternal rest on July 5, 2024, at the age of 73 years. Born in Reynolds, Georgia, on March 14, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Robert Winters Sr. and Lila Pearl Winters. Martha was joined in matrimony to Joseph Hoover Kerr, who preceded her in death, as did her brothers Lawrence Moore, Robert Winters Jr, Brantley Moore, and her sister, Faye Jones. She is survived by a devoted family, including her siblings Gerald Moore (Margie), Edward Winters Sr. aka Eddie (Belinda), Marie Winters (Robert Jr.), Katherlene Moore (Lawrence), Liz Moore (Brantley), and Carlos Jones (Faye).
Martha, a graduate of Taylor County High School in the Class of 1969, was not only a licensed beautician and manicurist but also a dedicated nurse's aide who served her community with kindness. Her artistic talents were not limited to beauty and healthcare, as she also showcased her artistry in the culinary departments of local grocers. However, what truly set Martha apart was her unwavering commitment to philanthropy. Her selfless contributions to various service organizations, including the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and the Civil Air Patrol, as well as her support to the less fortunate at nursing homes, cultural centers, and social aid programs, serve as an inspiration to us all.
Gifted with creative hands, Martha found joy in artistic pursuits such as sketching, painting, ceramic craft, and glass blowing. She delighted in the comforts of sewing, crocheting, literature, and tending to her garden. She was a faithful attendee of the River of Life church in Smyrna, Tennessee.
Cherishing her memory are her children, Hilbert William Gavel Jr. aka Bill (Tamey), Nathan Shawn Gavel (Jennifer), Jerod Loran Gavel (Juna), and Phoebe Gavel Cantrell (Chad); her legacy continues through her ten grandchildren: Tyler Gavel (Rachel), Ashley Calvert (Cedric), Michael Gavel (Heather), Joshua Gavel (Manish), Benjamin Gavel (Rose), Steven Gavel, Kari Gavel, Phoenix Gavel, Alexa Dumalogdog, Imogene Cantrell and five great-grandchildren Daniel Calvert, Lila Calvert, Chloe Calvert, Logan Gavel, and Liam Gavel as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Martha's life will be honored in a memorial service at Turner's Chapel Church in Butler, Georgia, with forthcoming details. The family respectfully requests that, in deference of flowers, contributions be made in Martha's name to the National Alliance on Mental Illness at NAMI.org.
Ingram Funeral Home, Quinlan, Texas, has been trusted to care for Martha's arrangements. May she rest in peace, and her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
