Lonnie Otis Chappell, age 71, of Wills Point, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 24, 2021. Funeral Services with full military honors will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery under the direction of Ingram Funeral Home.
Lonnie Chappell was born on February 27, 1950, in Dallas, Texas to the late Mr. Sterling Hunter Chappell and Ester Pearl Permenter Chappell. He was raised in a small town outside of Paris, Texas and married the love of his life, Virginia Lydia Sorensen on June 26, 1971, in Garland, Texas. Lonnie enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on July 6, 1968, and honorably served his country until his discharge on July 9, 1974. After his discharge, Lonnie worked as an officer for the Dallas Police Department for many years but being a true proud American, Lonnie had a great desire to continue to serve his Country and enlisted into the United States Army on July 23, 1986, and honorably served until October 20, 1994. During his military career, Lonnie achieved numerous awards, medals and ribbons including two Purple Hearts, several service ribbons and commendation medals. Lonnie loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and fishing. He was an incredibly talented woodworker and owned and operated Two Shop Dogs Woodworking in Wills Point until his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling and Ester, and his K9 kid, Daisy.
He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Virginia Chappell of Wills Point; son, Phillip Dewayne Chappell of Wills Point; daughter, Valerie Palmer of Wills Point; sisters, Donna June Hagerty of Colorado, and Judith Chappell of Dallas; grandchildren, Justin and Cierra Palmer both of Wills Point.
