James Lance Obituary

James Warren Lance was born in Denton on November 17, 1946, to Lula Beth and Joseph Perry Lance. He grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from Poly Tech High School in the Class of 1965. Shortly thereafter he joined the U.S. Navy where he was stationed on the USS Valley Forge off the shores of Vietnam. In 1968, he was honorably discharged from the Navy. He went to a “Welcome Home Party” where he met his future first wife, Joyce Ingram from Garland.

They married on December 12, 1969, and during their 12 year marriage had two children, Heather Deanne Lance and Warren Perry Lance.

He met his second wife, Martha Ann Hollis from Driftwood at Studabakers in Dallas. They were married on July 8, 1989, at Onion Creek in Austin. He became stepfather to Laura Vineyard and son in-law Chris Vineyard, Jerry “Scott” Hollis and daughter in-law Kristie Hollis. 

James enjoyed going fishing, hunting, camping at Camp Ben McCulloch and rafting down the Guadalupe River on Memorial Day. He loved road trips! He was also known to play good game of cards or Trivial Pursuit with friends and family. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Preceded in death by his wife Martha Ann Lance, son Perry Lance, mother and father, older sister Barbara Drucellia Mauldin and older brother Johnny Joe Lance (Carolyn Lance).

He is survived by his daughter, Heather Smith and son in-law Cameron Lee Smith. Grandsons: Austin Lee Smith, Warren Luke Lance, Justin Lee Vineyard, Matthew Scott Hollis and Koree Michael Copeland (daughter in-law Cassie Copeland). Granddaughters: Maddison Rylie Lance (son in-law, Rudy Bocanegra). Willow Raegan Lance, Katherine Victoria Hollis and Kourtney Michelle Copeland (son in-law Edgar Rodriguez). Great granddaughter, Meadow Blue Bocanegra. Sister, Linda Sue Arnold along with many nephews, nieces and cousins and his beloved dog, Lucy.
