Howard Powell Obituary

Howard Powell, age 92, went to be with the Lord on July 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 23, 1932, to parents Elvin Delmore Powell and Retha Vera (Burns) Powell in Hope, Arkansas.

In his years of life, Howard worked as a lead man at Country Crock Margarine Plant for 43 years. They say, “A man’s bread and butter is only insured when he works for it”, while he didn’t make the bread, he was instrumental in coming up with the perfect ingredients for the famous Country Crock butter that everyone knows and loves. Here he was able to provide for the family that he made.  He met the love of his life, Dorothy, and married her on March 8, 1981; together they had three beautiful children. He was a Southern Baptist who attended church in Lancaster, TX and was also a part of the Teamsters Union. Howard found joy in putting his hands in the dirt of his garden, out on the lake pulling in that award winning fish or hitting the jackpot in the slots at Choctaw Casino. He also kept a quieter life by keeping his mind active with a word search puzzle and taking care of his wife, “Sugar Pie” Nanny.

His legacy will continue to live on through his wife, Dorothy Powell; son, Charles May and his Wife Gayla; daughters Sheila Sartoris and husband Victor and Charlotte Gibson and husband Tony; siblings, Jerry Powell and Sue Dawana; grandchildren, Chelsie Odle – Manley and husband Justin, Hailey Sartoris, and Gina Guevera and husband Richard; great grandchildren Hadley and Justin Jr. Odle – Manley, Izzy, Jay, and Lucian Guevera, along with countless nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Bobby Jack and Darrel Grover Powell, and grandson Casey Dean Mays.
