Horace William “Bill” Tharp 88 of Greenville went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 15, 2018 in Greenville. Funeral services celebrating Bill’s life will be held at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday February 20, 2018 at Ingram Funeral Home with Rev. Von Paxton officiating. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 P.M. at Duncan City Cemetery, Duncan, Oklahoma. Visitation will be 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. Sunday, February 18 at Ingram Funeral Home.

Bill was born on May 29, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Horace John Tharp and Vera Katherine Bass Tharp.
He was raised in the Roseland area of Chicago and graduated from Fenger High School. Bill then attended Depauw University in Greencastle, Indiana where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in political science. After joining the Air Force, he was sent to Oklahoma State University for additional training, where he met his late wife, Martha on a blind date. Two weeks later they were engaged and then were married January 17, 1954. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Guam during the Korean Conflict. After he returned stateside and was married, they started their family in Biloxi while stationed at Keesler Air Force Base. After his discharge, Bill and Martha moved to Corsicana in 1955. They moved to Dallas in 1959, residing there until 2005 when he moved to the Lake Tawakoni area. Bill worked for the Southland Corporation 7-11 Stores for 20 years and retired. He returned to the workforce again, working for Frisco State Bank for five years then worked for his sons for the next 20 years, retiring his second and final time in 2002. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, formerly Faith Baptist Church. He loved to read, “fooling” with electronic gadgets, and loved his family and friends, his church and his dogs. Bill is preceded in death by his beloved wife Martha, his parents and siblings and their spouses Ed (Helen), Bob (Dorothy) and Ruth (Al), son-in-law Mehdi Mehmandoost, and 1 great-grandchild, Violeta.
He is loved and will be missed by his sons Charles William Tharp and wife Debbie of West Tawakoni, John Edwin Tharp and wife Mary of Rockwall; and daughter Sandra Kay Mehmandoost (husband Mehdi, deceased) of Grand Prairie; grandchildren Sarah Hernandez (Rafael), Julia Huff (David), Mary Shupert, Christopher Tharp, Amanda Miller (Hans), Rebecca Tharp Tallman Gode (James), Benjamin Tharp (Mariah); and great-grandchildren Jordan, Hannah, Orion, Madeline, Colton, Aubrey, Sofia, Violeta (deceased), and Salomon.
