Gilberto Raul Gonzalez, age 69, of Point, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10am Friday, July 5, 2024, at St. John Catholic Church at 551 FM 2795, Emory, Texas 75440. Graveside services will be held at 2pm at Calvery Hill Cemetery at 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, Texas 75220. Rosary will be held at 5pm on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, with Visitation from 6pm-8pm at Ingram Funeral Home in Quinlan.
Gilberto Raul Gonzalez was born on Saturday, September 17, 1955, in Dallas to Mr. Gilberto Gonzalez and Marianita Garcia Gonzalez. He was raised in Mesquite and a 1975 graduate of North Mesquite High School, where he was active in the ROTC program. He was an incredibly talented painter and autobody technician. His father owned an autobody shop in Dallas for many years and closed the shop in 1972. In 2005, Gilberto reopened his father's shop under the name GS Collision. Gilberto proudly ran the shop until last year when his health required him to sale the shop. He met the love of his life, Cathy Marie Dean on March 8, 2021, and they married at Lake Tawakoni on December 9, 2023.
Gilbert was active in the Sons of Amvets, Amvets Post 23 in Dallas and Amvets Post 36 in Tawakoni, where he served as past president, commander, and state commander. He also served as President of the Amvets Post Riders and was very active until his retirement due to his declining health. Gilbert had such a compassionate heart for others. He loved giving his time and talents to others in need. He was instrumental in neighborhood pantry outreach programs, serving as driver and distributor for
Souls Ministry in Mesquite. He also formed many fundraisers including suicide prevention, breast cancer, Toys for Tots, and scholarships for area schools. Gilberto was also an excellent cook. He loved smoking meat and hosting crawfish boils for family, friends, the Posts and the homeless veterans at the VA hospital in Dallas. Gilberto was a simple man and loved fishing, hunting and a good cold beer. He was also an avid Star Wars fan but more than anything, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a regular at Sturgis motorcycle rally in South Dakota.
He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his devoted wife, Cathy Gonzalez of Point; son, Gilberto Shane Gonzalez and fiancé Salma Jimenez of Dallas; brothers, Eddie Gonzales of Dallas; Ralph Gonzales and wife Santa Ines of Seagoville; Alex Gonzalez and wife Joann of Dallas; and Roberto Gonzalez of Dallas; sisters, Olga Gonzales and husband Juan of Aberdeen, South Dakota; Francis Luna and husband Joe of Plano; and Rebecca Baldwin and husband Gary of Mesquite; his K9 Kid, Puddles Gonzalez and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
