Gary Burks was born on December 10, 1946, in Royse City to the late Mr. Robert Clell Burks and Ina Lorene Monk Hargis. He spent his early childhood years in Royse City before moving to Garland where he graduated high school. He married Rebecca Fields on June 25, 1967. Gary was a master painter and remodeler for home construction. He also owned and operated two successful BBQ Restaurants in West and Mesquite and participated in BBQ competitions. Traveling was in Gary’s blood, and he enjoyed driving 18 wheelers and tour buses all over the United States. Gary had an adventurous nature and even flew an airplane and was looking forward to one day manning a ship. He enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, and telling stories. He had knowledge for trivia and especially enjoyed Texas trivia. Most of all Gary loved God. He was a longtime member of Richardson First Assembly, where he taught Sunday School. He enjoyed talking with people and served as host for The Lakes Assembly Church coffee bar for several years. Gary enjoyed going to Tuesday Night movies, breakfast anytime of the day, and having dinner with friends and family. Gary was a foodie. He loved cooking and BBQing for others. He had a huge heart; he fully gave of himself and his love for others was limitless. He was a wonderful husband, caring father, honorable man, and a teacher by example.
