EJ was born on September 14th, 1945, to Eugene “Gene” Jordan Guerrant and Mary Margaret Jordan. He was raised with his brother, Bob, and his sister, Marsha in Kansas. He was a proud graduate of St. John’s Military School in Salina, KS, where he was active in the rifle team, National Honor Society, Key Club, bowling team, and Crack Squad, and received numerous accolades. He later went to college at Wichita State University and earned an accounting degree in 1967 before beginning his career as a CPA. His oldest child, Wayne, was born in 1968. His second child, Suzy, was born in 1970. He met his wife, Ramona, in 1979. The two relocated to Oklahoma City and were married shortly after in 1983. In November 1985, EJ and Ramona moved to Antlers, OK to be closer to the nearby lakes, where they spent many years fishing, and started their CPA firm. Their first child, Marlow, was born in 1990, followed by Elizabeth in 1995. He became a grandpa to Ashley and Christopher and was ‘pa’ to countless pets over the years. EJ spent the duration of his career at their firm before retiring in 2019.
EJ was an avid collector throughout his life, amassing everything from wild hats to Bigfoot socks to toothpick holders. As a kid growing up in Kansas, he loved to catch snakes, lizards, spiders, etc. and he even raised pigeons. He often used the family bathtub for his critters. EJ passed his love of critters on to his children with varying degrees of success! He was an avid fisherman as a boy, which continued throughout his life. One of his favorite activities on the weekend was ‘putzing around’ with a fishing pole or commenting on water depth at area lakes and rivers. In his later years he became a trapper, catching and releasing all sorts of critters from his yard into the country (which often made for fun stories shared with everyone he met). He loved music, especially classical, jazz, blues, and musicals, and passed this love onto his children and grandchildren.
EJ could talk to anyone and never failed to put a smile on others’ faces with his goofy antics and sometimes off-colored stories. He taught those who loved him to enjoy the simple pleasures in life, to love others, and to stand up for what’s right regardless of what others might think. In other words, he taught people to not give a damn. He often said that he did non-traditional things that dads may not normally do because they were too busy being a “macho man”. He always showed up - sometimes in costume - to support his children and those he loved in big and small ways.
E.J., 79, passed away on July 22, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Ramona Guerrant, of Antlers, OK, children, Suzy Morton and her husband, Sean Morton, of Salina, KS, Marlow Guerrant and their wife, Whitney Guerrant, of Schenectady, NY, Elizabeth Guerrant and her partner, Mike Casella, of Boston, MA, brother Bob Guerrant and his wife, Joan Guerrant of Southboro, MA, sister Marsha Stromberg and husband, Gary Stromberg, of Derby, KS, and grandchildren, Ashley Morton and husband Nikhil Biju, and Christopher Morton of Salina, KS.
He was predeceased in death by his mother, Mary Margaret Guerrant, Father Eugene Jordan Guerrant, and his son, Wayne Guerrant. He was also close to his grandfather, “Gramps” Cecil Jordan, and aunt, “Aunt Marge”, Margorie McMahan, with whom he spent many childhood summers fishing and camping. His celebration of life was July 29th at Hugo Lake, where EJ loved fishing with his family, hunting for tarantulas and other critters, going to the shooting range, and taking drives with his wife Ramona.
