Dawnlee Fredricka Truell, known to most as Dawn, and to her family as Lee. She was born on February 21, 1989, in Galveston, Texas. She passed unexpectedly on February 4, 2026 in Commerce, Texas. Far too soon and without warning, entering her eternal rest.
Above all else, Dawn was a mother. Her children, Chance Daniel and Vesstiney Mae, were the center of her world. They were her why-her strength, her purpose, and the place her heart always lived. Everything she did, every fight she fought, and every ounce of love she gave was rooted in her devotion to them. That love doesn't end here. It surrounds them still and always will.
Dawn had a heart wired to care. She was a fierce advocate, a protector, and someone people turned to when they were hurting-even without a title, she was a counselor by nature. She felt deeply, spoke honestly, and stood up for what mattered to her.
She carried a deep love for animals, especially horses, and found peace and connection in their presence.
Music was another place her soul lived and used music the way some people use words to feel, to heal, and to remember. Her laughter was unmistakable, her presence unforgettable. She had a way of making people feel seen, remembered, and less alone.
Dawn carried her faith quietly but firmly. She trusted God even when life was heavy, even when answers didn't come. Her strength was rooted in belief, and her heart remained soft in a hard world.
She is deeply loved and survived by her mother, Donna Truell-Steele, and her father, Michael Steele; her sisters, Virginiann Truell and Nycoé Pierce-Winwood, and her brother-in-law, Clint Winwood; her cherished nieces, Amaya Lerche Serina Renée, Bella Faith and Kenzy Grace along with many cousins, aunts, and dear friends whose lives are forever marked by her love.
Dawn leaves behind a lifetime of memories, beautiful and honest moments. Though her time here was far too brief, her spirit lives on in the laughter of her children, in the stories shared, and in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be remembered not just for who she was, but for the love she gave.
A Celebration of Life service will be announced by the family.
