David " Batman" Johnson

David Earl Johnson Jr., affectionately known as “Batman” by his grandchildren, was born on May 21, 1981, in Terrell, Texas, and passed away on June 14, 2026. He made his home in Grand Saline, Texas, where he lived life with a spirited passion and an unwavering love for his family.

David was a dedicated truck driver and electrician whose work took him across nearly every state in the country, with only Alaska and Hawaii left unexplored. During his years on the road, he experienced countless adventures and made memories that lasted a lifetime. One of his favorite recent memories was celebrating his birthday by feeding giraffes, an experience that sparked a newfound love for these gentle animals.

Above all else, David treasured the time he spent with his beloved wife, Vicky Johnson. He proudly embraced her children as his own; Katherine Blackwell, Christina Vannatter, and Zachary Gunn. Where he found his greatest joy in being “Batman” to his grandchildren, Oliver, Paisley Rae, and Audrey. Their laughter, hugs, and love were the greatest gifts in his life.

David found happiness in life’s simple adventures. He loved hiking, riding ATVs, floating the river, sightseeing, and spending time playing video games. He had a deep faith in the Lord and cherished his faithful companions Floyd, Mayhem, Tyson, and Rosco, who were surely waiting to welcome him home.

David’s kind heart, generous spirit, and infectious smile touched everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his father, David Johnson; his siblings; his wife’s family; and countless friends and loved ones whose lives were forever brighter because of him.

David was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Brenda Sweat.

A celebration of David’s life will be announced at a later date, when family and friends will gather to honor his memory, share stories, and celebrate the love and laughter he brought into the world. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
