Daniel McNew Obituary

Dr. Daniel Philip McNew, 90, passed away November 29, 2024, at his home in Quinlan, Texas.
Daniel was born on September 19, 1934, in Tyler, Texas to Benjamin James McNew, Sr. and Glennie Owens McNew. He outlived his parents and four siblings.
Dan (as classmates called him) graduated from Tyler High School in 1953 and then earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1964. Dr. Dan, as he was lovingly called, started his career as a General Dentist and practiced dentistry for 56 years.
Dan married Claudette Cockrell McNew on September 1, 1955, in a garden wedding in Tyler, Texas. Dr. Dan is survived by his loving wife Claudette McNew and three daughters, spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Dr. Danette McNew Hovenden (spouse David Hovenden); Valerie McNew Schlieter (spouse Kenneth Schlieter, CPA); Wende McNew Hawthorne, JD Attorney At Law (spouse Joseph Hawthorne, CPA). Grandchildren: Dr. Daniel Benjamin Schlieter (spouse Amanda Gilliam Schlieter); Leighton Edward Schlieter (spouse Loren Harrison Schlieter); Claudia (Katie) Hawthorne Monk (spouse Major James L Monk); Natalie Florence Hawthorne; First Lieutenant Philip Joseph Hawthorne. Great Grandchildren: Caleb Edward Schlieter; Myles James Monk; Christine Grace Schlieter; Natalia Michelle Monk. And many other extended family members.
Dr. Dan was best known for his loving support of his family. He grew up playing a variety of sports, but his favorite interest was playing and watching baseball. He was faithful to God and the ministry of the churches where he had placed his membership.

The Celebration of Life service for Dr. Daniel McNew will be held at 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., on January 20, 2025, at First Baptist of Rockwall with fellowship after service.
Memorial donations can be made in honor of Dr. Daniel P. McNew to Baylor Oral Health Foundation (BOHF) in Dallas, Texas (www.bohf.org) and/or Samaritan's Purse.
