Ben Bennett Obituary

Graham Bennett (aka Ben), age 85 of West Tawakoni went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 28, 2024. A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held at 11:00am on Friday January 10, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Quinlan with Pastor Beth Ensor and Pastor Danny Barrett officiating.

Graham was born on March 9, 1939, in Lancaster, South Carolina to the late Eunice Graham and Claude Franklin Bennett.  He graduated from Lancaster High School, Wingate Junior College, Chaminade University and received his Master Degree from Golden Gate University.  He played football and baseball during his younger years in high school and college.  

He enlisted into the United States Air Force and quickly excelled in his military career receiving numerous decorations and medals during his 22 years of service retiring honorably as a Chief Master Sargent in May 1984.  He continued working after retirement with several defense contractors.  

His strong love for God and country also extended to his family, church and community. He served as district lay leader for the United Methodist Church as well as community service through the Methodist Men's Group, leading bible studies and volunteering/serving on multiple church committees. Showing his love for serving others he was President for Lake Tawakoni Regional Chamber of Commerce, West Tawakoni Economic Development Board, Lake Area Shared Ministries, FISH Ministries in Greenville, Hunt County Appraisal Board, Hunt County United Way and Hunt County GOP Club. 

God must have given Ben extra hours in a day as enjoyed volunteering/acting with The Talent Box in Wills Point and teaching college courses at Paris Junior College. His hobbies included gardening, golf and fishing. He leaves a legacy of strength, servitude, and compassion for others.

He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Brenda Baker Bennett; daughters, Deanne Gibson, Bernay Johnson and husband Tom; grandchildren Kristopher Gibson, Zachary Gibson and fiancé Eliza, Brandon Johnson and wife Chelsea, Matthew Johnson, Garrett Johnson and fiancé Daniela; great granddaughters, Ellie and Lizzie Gibson; sister, Barbara Gardner and numerous cousins.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorials be sent to Lake Area Shared Ministries, P.O. Box 492, Quinlan, TX 75474 or Texas Best Choice Animal Rescue, 2502 Red Bud Trail, Quinlan, Texas 75474.
