A celebration of life memorial service for Buddy G. Ivey, Jr., 85, of Poyner is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Bethel Christian Church with the Rev. Mike Baldwin officiating.
Bethel Christian Church is located off Hwy. 19 North, on the corner of CR 3822 and CR 3817 in Athens.
Mr. Ivey died peacefully on Jan. 29, 2023, following a brief illness.
Buddy Grover Ivey, Jr. was born October 20, 1937, in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of the late Buddy G. Ivey, Sr., and the late Vera Bell Bass Ivey.
On June 8, 1956, he married the love of his life, the late Carolyn Ray Shirley Ivey. Mr. Ivey loved his family, the outdoors, hot rods, motorcycles, and talking smack. His signature saying was “Let me tell you something, Slick”.
Mr. Ivey was a veteran, serving in the 1950s and early 1960s in the United States Army, as well as active and reserve duty in the National Guard of Texas. He was very active in the Golden Eagles Motorcycle Club in Dallas for several years holding leadership roles in the late 1960s and early 1970s, serving as president and vice president.
During his professional career as a master welder, he worked as Lead Man for Gardner Denver in Dallas, Brown & Root Texas, and Athens Muffler Shop. He was also a commissioned security officer providing security services for Wakenhut Security Company in Dallas, Pinkerton Security Service in Dallas, Broadway Square Mall in Tyler, and the Smith County Sheriff’s Department.
He is survived by sons Buddy Wayne Ivey, Sr. and wife Becky of Rowlett, Bobby Ivey and wife Brenda of Frankston, Bradley Ivey and wife Sheila of Poyner; brother Rex Ivey of Dallas; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Carolyn; brother Bill Ivey; sisters Ann McCarter, Kay Gragsone; one granddaughter; and one great grandson.
