Johnny Ray Carson, 85 of Wills Point, Texas died November 4, 2019 in Denison. Born May 24, 1934 to parents Ollie Octavus and Anna Rae Dorsey Carson. He had lived in Van Zandt County for 29 years. He attended Irving schools and graduated from Irving High School in 1952 and was a graduate of North Texas University. He earned both BS and MS there.
He served from 1954-1958 in the United States Coast Guard; most of his tenure was in the Pacific Ocean, including Hawaii and Alaska; his unit engaged in search and rescue, and tabulating Russian submarine movements.
An instructor in Garland School District, he retired in 1966 with a credited tenure of 21 years. Prior to that he was employed by Frito Lay in engineering; Payne and Howard detailing store fronts and metal designs; Collins Radio Company as unit supervisor, and Phelps Dodge Corporation in Morenci, Arizona in research and development operations.
He is survived by wife Della of 39 years, marrying 20 June, 1980, with three daughters: Suzette (Scott) Foster of Carrollton, Laura Carson (Shawn) of Plano, and Michele Smith of Sadler; son Royce (Laura) Fowler of Denton; granddaughter Kayla (Michael Hageman of Kyle; grandsons Tyler Poetschke of Wylie, Conner and Davis Smith of Sadler, great grandchildren Riley, Journey, and Carter Poetschke of Wylie. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Billye Caldwell of Garland and Doris Brown of Irving.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on November 15, 2019, in Quinlan at Ingram Funeral Home with Steve Rost Officiating.
