Gladys Louise (Duvall) Bruce

Gladys Duvall Bruce, 97, of Heath went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at her home. She will be interred at 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Sunnyvale. Memorial services celebrating Mrs. Bruce’s life will follow at 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church of Royse City with Pastor Chris Everson officiating.

Gladys Duvall Bruce was born on November 10, 1920 in Champion, Texas. She is the daughter of the late Earl and Ruth Duvall. She was the oldest daughter of six children. She skipped two grades in public school and started college at the age of 15. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from McMurry University in Abilene at the age of 17. Gladys met Rev. S. Duane Bruce and they became college sweethearts and they were married in 1942. She taught elementary school for a 3 years before becoming a full-time pastor’s wife. They were extremely committed to each other for all of their 65 years of marriage until his passing. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Sharamine Wise, 3 brothers and 1 sister. She is remembered by many as a loving, caring and sweet person.

She is loved and will be missed by her son Dan Bruce and wife Nancy of Heath; granddaughters Daena Lee and husband Chris, Carrie Esch, Amie Pennington and husband Patrick; 5 great-grandsons and 2 great-granddaughters; and sister Judy Rucker of Prosper.
