Mr. Alvin Morton 96 of Quinlan went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, June 9, 2017 in Rockwall. Funeral services celebrating Alvin’s life will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Lakeview Church with Bro. Ken Masat of Covenant Christian Church officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 16, 2017 at DFW National Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to his services.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rodney Morton, Gene Morton, Chris Simmons, Hayden Elliott, Kevin Monk, Patrick Buentello and Jacob Stiff.

Alvin was born March 13, 1921 in Big Springs, Texas. He is the son of the late James Nelson Morton Sr. and Mattie Traweek Morton. His father passed away when he was 8 years old and his mother moving the family to Grand Junction, Colorado where he was raised and attended school. In 1939, Alvin joined the United States Army in Company C232 Infantry Division 42. He helped release prisoners (Jews) from Dachau concentration camp in Germany on April 29th, 1943. As he walked up to unlock this prison, the German soldier asked Alvin to give him a head start before he opened the gate. Alvin told him, that if he had been the kind of soldier that he should have been, then he would have not worried about getting a head start and then the soldier ran off, as Alvin unlocked the gate.  After a short discharge, Alvin re-enlisted and serviced during the Korean Conflict, he obtained a field commission and was promoted to Captain and retired after 20 years of service. He married the former Miss Lennie C. McAlpin in 1945 and they made their home in Dallas before moving to rural Quinlan in 1969. She preceded him in death on February 4, 2005. He had been a longtime substitute for the Quinlan ISD for many years. He was a member of the Lakeview Church where he served as an Elder for many years. He was co-founder of the Helping Hands Today Ministry. A member of the Quinlan Lions Club. He and his wife also helped form the Senior Citizen Centers in Quinlan, Royse City, and Terrell.

He is loved and will be missed by his sons, James Cass Morton & wife Evone of Alvarado, Douglas Dwayne Morton & wife Kimberli of Quinlan. Daughters, Terry Lee Morton of California and Clara Dee Behymer  & husband Wayne of Cleburne. 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. And Brother William Grover Morton of Tennessee, at age of 99.
