Thomas “Tom” Lester Cope, 79, of Quinlan went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 in Dallas. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the American Legion Post #517 in Quinlan. He was born on September 28, 1937 in Sylva, North Carolina. He is the son of the late Lucius Cope and Nellie Blanton Cope. He was raised and educated in Sylva. He entered in the United States Army at the age of 17 and proudly served his Country until his retirement in 1979. During his military career he served 2 tours in Viet Nam and traveled the world with the Army. Tom met and married the former Ms. Jill Elizabeth Linnert on July 7, 1977. After retirement they settled in N. Mariana Islands (Saipan) where he worked in the hospital. Then they moved to Seattle, Washington where he drove for the transit department for the city of Seattle. They finally settled in Quinlan, Texas 14 years ago. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, 1 brother-in-law and 1 daughter. He served as Commander for his local American Legion Post #517. He enjoyed horses, dogs and “Guitar Picking.” He also loved spending time with family and friends. He is loved and will be missed by wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
