Joey wanted to say this at the funeral, but couldn’t bring himself to get up & say it.
Papa Roger asked me if I had a .22 & I said “yes sir, I have a few.” He was quiet for a little while & then he asked me if I had shotgun & I said “yes sir. I have quite a few shotguns.” Then he got up & disappeared for a while & he came back with a zipper case & said “merry Christmas.” & I said “what is this” & he told me it was his own deer rifle & I told him I couldn’t take it & he said “yes you will.” I cried when he gave it to me. I took it hunting & shot a deer with it & called to tell him & I knew he couldn’t have been happier for me. I know that my son won’t ever know him like I did, but I know when I take him hunting with that rifle for the first time, Papa Roger will be there with us.

We were saddened to hear of Roger's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lois and the entire family. Hang tight to all those good memories.

Our hearts are heavy here at the American Legion and throughout the District with the loss
of Roger, our Life Member. His forty years of faithful service to the Post and our Veterans
and his service to our Country will long be remembered and always be appreciated. He
will be missed but not forgotten. May he rest in peace.
