Bishop Johnnie Edward Skinner, 82, of Quinlan went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 26, 2016 at his home. Funeral services celebrating Bishop Skinner’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at North Cities United Pentecostal Church in Garland with Brothers Peter Gray, D.G. Hargrove and James Worthington officiating. Interment will be immediately following at Mills Cemetery in Garland Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Ingram Funeral Home in Quinlan.

 

Bishop Skinner was born May 11, 1934 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He is the son of the late Pete Skinner and Jessie Prestige Skinner. He was raised and educated in the Fruitvale community. Bishop Skinner married the former Daisy Lavenia Welchel on January 12, 1953 and they made their home where ever the Lord Lead them. He worked as a truck driver for many years. His greatest joy came from being a minister of the Gospel and was a pastor of 11 churches. In 2003 he received his Honorary Doctorate in Theology and was installed as Bishop at Calvary Apostolic Church in Rowlett where he had been pastor for 25+ years. He was also a member of and held several leadership positions in the Louisiana and Texas Districts of The Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but his heart was in service to his Savior.

 

He is loved and will be missed by his wife Daisy Skinner of Quinlan; sons Jimmy Edward Skinner and wife Stacy of Jonesville, LA, Wendell Gene Skinner and wife Kim of Boswell, OK, Jacky Lynn Skinner and wife Cathy of Quinlan; daughters Cynthia Ann Weeks and husband Mark of Jonesville, LA, Karen Sue Fowler and husband Ronnie of Quinlan; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren and a host of friends he adopted into his family.
