Elmo "Carl" Taber

Elmo Carl Taber 87 of East Tawakoni community went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday August 7, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services with full military honors will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Ingram Funeral Home in Quinlan with Chaplain David Badders officiating. Interment will follow at Lynch Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 9, 2017.

Carl was born May 3, 1930 in Stillwell, Oklahoma. He is the son of the late Truman Taber and Arizona Harper Taber. He was raised and attended school in Watts, Oklahoma. He entered the United States Army in 1950 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was wounded during the war a received the purple heart for bravery. He was returned home to Ft. Hood to recover, later he was deferred to the National Guards until 1955 when he re-entered active duty. He served tours in Germany during the building of the Berlin Wall then in 1967, he went to Vietnam and served two tours of duty only to become wounded again and to receive his second purple heart. He retired in 1979 at Ft. Hood. He made his home in West Tawakoni where he worked as a deputy sheriff for Rains County for a couple of years before becoming West Tawakoni Police Chief. Carl was an entrepreneur, owning several different business, restaurants, bars, liquor store and barbeque place through the years. He married Tommie Holloway in 1994 and they made their home in West Tawakoni before moving to East Tawakoni 18 years ago. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his lawn mower, feeding animals and loving on his dogs.

His is loved and will be missed by his wife Tommie of East Tawakoni. Daughters, Carla Scott and Sharon Valtierra & husband Robert, Linda Lowrey all of Albuquerque, Pamela Vaughn & husband Jerry of Tijeras, Rebecca Fraley & husband Dennis and Donna Archer of Oklahoma City. Step-Son, Thomas Baggett & wife Jeni of Farmersville. Step-Daughter, Chelsea Wright of Lone Oak. 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren. Sisters, Marcella Taber of California and Bonnie Stephens & husband Norman of Moore, Ok. Brother, Lex Taber & wife Jackie of Watts, Oklahoma.
